Veidekke ASA : Huge contract for Veidekke Asphalt
Veidekke has signed one of the largest asphalt contracts in Norwegian history with Hæhre Entreprenør AS. Veidekke will lay 140,000 tons of asphalt on the new E6 that Hæhre is building alongside the Mjøsa Lake. The contract is worth around NOK 100 million excluding VAT.
The contractor, Hæhre, has won one of the three contracts alongside the Mjøsa Lake where the new E6 will be constructed for the Public Roads Administration and a double track laid for the National Rail Administration. As part of this, asphalt will be laid on the new 10.5 km long section of dual carriageway, on 7 km of county and country roads, and in a number of crossroads and adjoining areas. This task has now been assigned to Veidekke.
"As far as I am aware, this is the largest asphalt contract in Norway after the new airport at Gardermoen was built. It will be a demanding job with huge logistical challenges, including managing the traffic that will run close to our asphalt workers. We have also invested in new technology with GPS-based compression equipment and thermal cameras because of the documentation requirements," says Oskar Torgunrud, Veidekke Asphalt's regional manager.
Most of the asphalt will be laid in 2013 and 2014, and the road will be opened for normal traffic in October 2014.
