Veidekke ASA : Veidekke signs major contract with Oslo Airport

Veidekke Entreprenør today signed a contract with Oslo Lufthavn AS to provide aircraft stands and technical infrastructure around the new pier at the main airport. The value of the contract is approximately NOK 370 million excluding VAT.

There is considerable ground and foundation work to be done in connection with the 11 new aircraft stands for North Pier at Oslo Airport. New load-bearing and reinforcement layers must be established, as well as approximately 35,000 m² new taxiways with lights and three layers of asphalt.

"Approximately 42,000 m² of concrete slabs will be poured, most of reinforced concrete with a snow melting system. The technical installations cover everything from a fuel plant with 25 hydrants to cable ducting systems and 40 concrete chambers for ground power, PCA air and water," explains Project Manager Halvor Nordbø of Veidekke Anlegg. 

Veidekke will also build a thermal energy snow storage facility of 15,200 m² with asphalt troughs and a pumping station of concrete poured on site. This part of the contract also includes technical installations (electrical, HVAC and machinery), as well as water and sewage systems with pipes, gutters and chambers for collecting surface water. The system for cooling for the new pier is a pioneering project in Norway.

"This will be a challenging assignment for us, with strict safety requirements. The work will be performed adjacent to areas with air traffic and there is also other building and construction work close by. With good planning and close cooperation with the client, we will succeed in this," concludes Nordbø.

Building work starts in March and is due for completion in October 2016.
