Halden municipal pension fund has awarded Veidekke’s subsidiary Øst AS the contract to remodel Halden Storsenter. The former shopping centre is to become a culture and multi-purpose building for the town’s population and will include a cineplex and library, among other things. This will be a design and build contract valued at close to NOK 130 million, excluding VAT.

The contract comprises detailed design and engineering and remodelling of Halden Storsenter from shopping centre to multi-purpose building with a cineplex, library, family centre, Halden volunteer centre, youth club, Edderkoppen Gavemakeri and operational services. The project entails a full transformation and a significant improvement to the area in line with Halden’s urban development goals. The reuse of existing buildings is future-oriented use of resources and an example to be followed. The total area to be remodelled comprises slightly more than 11,500 square metres, and the cineplex comprises 1,500 m2 with three state-of-the-art cinemas.

“We really appreciate the confidence shown in us, and are looking forward to starting construction in a few weeks. It is a great pleasure and an honour to be awarded a contract that will mean so much to many of Halden’s inhabitants when completed. It was also Veidekke who built Halden Storsenter more than 20 years ago, and this makes it special that we as a local player will also be responsible for the remodelling,” says general manager Bård Degnes of Veidekke’s subsidiary Øst AS.

Construction work starts in September, with completion scheduled for October 2021.
