Veidekke has entered into a contract with Omsorgsbygg Oslo KF to demolish the existing structures and erect the new, environmentally-certified Majorstuhjemmene nursing home with 120 places in central Oslo. The commission is a design and build contract valued NOK 608 million excluding VAT.

The new Majorstuhjemmene will achieve the Breeam Excellent classification, and construction work will be carried out with a goal of an emission-free construction site. Existing structures will be demolished, and there are plans to reuse a range of materials in the new building. The nursing home will comprise almost 16,000 m2, and will in addition to the 120 nursing home places include elderly day care, a café, a library, conservatories and sensory gardens both on the roof and in the courtyard. The project also includes a public square facing the Oslo Tramway Museum.

“We’re really looking forward to collaborating with Omsorgsbygg on Majorstuhjemmene. Here they are at the cutting edge with ambitious environmental goals that we greatly appreciate, and sustainable solutions in every phase of a construction project is completely in line with Veidekke’s ambitions. Our team is ready to get to grips with planning and building what will be an excellent nursing home to the benefit of both residents, relatives and employees,” says Head of Department Erik Økland of Veidekke Bygg Oslo.

Construction is scheduled to start in September with completion in January 2024.
