Veidekke ASA: To build new premises for the Storting

Veidekke Entreprenør AS has entered into a contract with the Storting to build new office premises for the Storting in Prinsens gate 26, as well as a new post and goods reception facility beneath Wessels plass. The value of the contract is NOK 372 million excluding VAT.

Prinsens gate 26 was built in the 1880s, and is currently characterised by subsidence problems. The infrastructure is also outdated, and in general the building is in great need of an upgrade. For this reason, everything but the façade will be demolished: The outer walls will have new foundations and a new cellar will be excavated. Beneath Wessels plass, Veidekke is to build a new post and goods reception with a tunnel to the Storting garage.

Prinsens gate 26 has been home to venerable pastry shop Halvorsens Conditori. The pastry shop has now moved, but measures will be taken to allow it to reopen in the premises when construction work is completed. In parallel with the Storting's project, a diversion of tram lines and water and drainage pipes is also being carried out in the area. In order to reduce inconvenience for neighbours and other users of the area, the various parties' activities are well coordinated.

Veidekke will start construction work at the end of June, and it will be completed in the summer of 2017. More information is available at https://www.stortinget.no/Hva-skjer-pa-Stortinget/Byggeprosjekter/P26/
