Veidekke has been commissioned by Hemsö to build the new Köpingeskolan in Trelleborg, Sweden. The project is a design and build contract worth approximately SEK 185 million. The new school is planned for completion in time for the autumn 2022 start of the school year.

“We are happy to be ready to start construction, in collaboration with the municipality and Veidekke, so that we can help meet the expanding need for school capacity in a rapidly growing city,” says Robert Cardell, project developer at Hemsö.

The contract comprises new construction of premises to house a preschool and a primary school as well as a schoolyard, for Internationella engelska skolan (International English School) and Kunskapsförskolan. Köpingeskolan will be equipped with a school cafeteria with kitchen, and classrooms for home economics, woodworking and music. The preschool will comprise 13 subunits with kitchen and common area. The new Köpingeskolan is planned to open its doors to up to 160 preschool children and 690 primary school students in the autumn of 2022.

“We are extremely pleased to be entrusted with the building of Köpingeskolan, after good collaboration with Hemsö throughout the planning phase of the project. Having the opportunity to build for the future, for children and young people, is extra rewarding and inspiring,” says Cecilia Eneberg, department manager at Veidekke Entreprenad AB.

The new school buildings will be environmentally certified in accordance with the “Miljöbyggnad Silver” standard, which stipulates requirements to ensure a healthy indoor climate with good ventilation for students and teachers and the use of healthy building materials that require low energy consumption.

The contract is included in the order book for the third quarter.
