Veidekke ASA: To build velodrome and commercial building in Asker
Veidekke has been commissioned by the Norwegian Cycling Federation’s centre of expertise and Nordr to build a velodrome and a commercial building with lower secondary school, kindergarten, offices and retail spaces in Asker municipality. Both are turnkey contracts worth respectively NOK 158 (velodrome) and 189 million (commercial building), excluding VAT.
The project is called Asker Velo and will have a gross area 15,700 m2 with universal design, located in extension from the sports facilities at Risenga. The velodrome will be built as a combined multi-purpose hall for municipal purposes in the centre, and the encircling built-up bicycle track will have an inner circumference of 200 metres. The six-story commercial building will include two floors with two private lower-secondary schools, two floors of offices, one floor with a kindergarten and one floor of retail premises.
“We have been developing the project since the autumn of 2019 in partnership with Nordr and the Norwegian Cycling Federation’s centre of expertise in order to realise it along with the commercial building’s tenants. Asker municipality has also made a very positive contribution to making this great project happen, and now we are looking forward to getting started with construction,” says district manager Gro Brathovde of Veidekke Bygg Buskerud.
Construction will start as soon as this October. The school and kindergarten will be ready for the start of the school year in August 2022, while the remainder is scheduled for completion in the autumn of 2022.
