Veidekke Entreprenør and subsidiary Hammerfest Entreprenør have been awarded the contract to build the new Baksalen school in Hammerfest. The school building will be the first public building north of Trondheim with BREEAM environmental certification. This will be a turnkey contract valued at NOK 202 million, excluding VAT.

The new Baksalen school is to be built next to the existing Baksalen school, and the new building will be almost 6,800 m2 in size including a sports hall. The school will be scaled to be a two-parallel school with up to 425 pupils from the first to seventh grade, including an introductory class with up to 25 pupils and a base for alternative teaching for between 3 - 5 pupils. The school building will comprise regular classrooms, group rooms, special rooms (music, home economics, arts and crafts), library, canteen and sports/multi-purpose hall with changing rooms.

Construction work will be executed by Hammerfest Entreprenør in partnership with Veidekke's other contracting operations in the Nord region, while Veidekke's subsidiary Block Berge Bygg is involved in supplying and assembling concrete elements for the building. The project will be carried out in close cooperation with all involved parties and using planning tools such as LEAN and BIM.

The contract also includes an option for a four-department day care centre that is to be built in the old Baksalen school. The option includes planning and execution where the construction will start immediately upon completion of the new school and conclude in the autumn of 2018.

"This is an important project for Hammerfest and also for Veidekke in the Nord region. We are proud and grateful for being chosen as contractor, and look forward to finally starting construction work. We are also particularly pleased to build this groundbreaking environmental building so far north in Finnmark," says district manager Ronny Robertsen with Veidekke Entreprenør Nord.

Construction will start in April, and is to be be completed in the autumn of 2017.
