Veidekke's subsidiary Block Berge Bygg has been awarded the contract by Sektor Gruppen to expand and refurbish the Kilden shopping centre in Hillevåg. The project has a strong environmental profile and will be the first BREEAM-certified shopping centre in Rogaland. This will be a turnkey contract valued at NOK 160 million, excluding VAT.

The Kilden shopping centre will be extended by 8,200 m2 over five storeys, and in addition 5,000 m2 of existing premises will be refurbished. This provides more retail space and a greater selection of different services, and the centre will emerge as modern and uniform when completed.

"A locally-based contractor is important to us. We have lengthy and good cooperation with Block Berge Bygg and they are extremely familiar with Kilden as they took part in developing the centre as we know it today. Thus it is natural for us to bring them on board again when developing the new Kilden," says property manager Tor Nickelsen with Sektor Gruppen.

Kilden is to be certified as "Very good" in accordance with the BREEAM NOR standard, and will be operated according to BREEAM In Use. "We are committed to everything from local materials, lower emissions and to a better indoor environment. Kilden will be built and operated in a sustainable manner that spares the environment and facilitates local development. It will be the first shopping centre in Rogaland that is certified in accordance with this environmental standard. Block Berge Bygg has important competence in this area," says Alexander Almeland, who is technical project manager with Sektor Gruppen.

"We are very pleased that Sektor Gruppen has chosen Block Berge Bygg. We have long experience and extensive expertise in carrying out construction projects in shopping centres that are in full operation, where our prefabricated solutions allow construction within given timeframes. The fact that this project also allows us to use our BREEAM expertise and experience in cooperation with the customer will contribute to forward our development within environmentally appropriate solutions," says managing director Yngvar Karlsen of Block Berge Bygg.

Work is presently starting, and the new centre will be ready for the Christmas season in 2015.
