Veidekke ASA: To renovate Trångsundsskolan by Stockholm
Veidekke’s subsidiary Arcona has been commissioned to renovate and extend Trångsundsskolan in Huddinge by Stockholm. The project is a collaborative design-and-build contract with a contract sum of approx. SEK 120 million. Starting in June, construction is scheduled for completion by August 2022.
More efficient utilisation of the available area was a central aspect of Arcona Arkitekter’s redesign of the school for Huddinge Samhällsfastigheter. Two buildings will be demolished and replaced with two new buildings which will comprise 3,000 sqm in total and be localised more in line with contemporary requirements. In addition, four existing buildings will be renovated, including kitchen and lunch hall. The outdoor areas and lighting will also be upgraded, to facilitate a safe and inspiring school yard environment with spaces for both quiet and active play. District heating will heat the new school buildings, which are intended to meet the Swedish “Miljöbyggnad Silver” certification standard. Sections of one building will have a sedum roof.
“The renovation will expand Trångsundsskolan’s capacity by 150 pupils, and when completed, the school will be able to accommodate approx. 900 pupils from preschool through ninth level. We have collaborated well with Arcona over several years and are looking forward to continue collaboration by renovating Trångsundsskolan to accommodate current educational requirements and furture work methods,” says Torbjörn Wallin, project developer at Huddinge Samhällsfastigheter.
Construction will be carried out in stages, and the school will be able to partially operate in current premises throughout the construction period.
“After a year of intensive planning, we are now looking forward to start construction. The school and contruction site are closely surrounded by residential areas, which presents challenges concerning the safety of third parties, logistics and communications. We have been working intensively on this over the past year, and as a result of good cooperation with the school administration, the municipal traffic department and the neighbours, our long-awaited construction start is due to take place once the pupils start their long-awaited summer holiday, says Caroline Abrahamsson, project manager at Arcona.
Arcona has already built several buildings for Huddinge Samhällsfastigheter – recently completing Glömstaskolan F-3, in addition to Glömstahallen, Glömstaskolan, Kvarnbergshallen and Stuvstahallen.
