Veidekke ASA: Veidekke to build new Stuenes school in Arendal
Veidekke Entreprenør has signed a contract with Arendal municipality to build new Stuenes school at Saltrød in Arendal. The contract has a value of NOK 193 million excluding VAT and the contract also contains options. "We are looking forward to building a state-of-the-art modern and energy-efficient school using the passive house standard," says managing director Are Westbye of Veidekke Agder.
The turnkey contract that Veidekke has won comprises construction of a new children and youth facility at Stuenes, which will replace the current before- and after-school care facility, and the primary and comprehensive school. The project comprises a new school for around 800 pupils and 80 employees and a sports facility.
Arendal Eiendom KF is the client, and has held a competitive tendering based on both price and solution. Preparation of drawings has been a part of the competition, and this has been done in cooperation with architect Asplan Viak AS.
Veidekke has chosen robust and flexible solutions with extensive focus on energy efficiency. The main characteristic is the S shape of the school, and this shape creates exciting opportunities for variation and flexibility.
Construction will begin at the end of June 2013, and the school will be ready for use at the start of 2015.
