Veidekke is building Haugesund's largest office building for Aibel
Veidekke Entreprenør has signed a contract with Garpeskjær Eiendom AS to build a new office building, stage 2, for Aibel at Garpeskjær in Haugesund. This will be a turnkey contract valued at NOK 140 million, excluding VAT.
The office building will be 6,350 m2 in size and accommodate 340 workplaces, as well as a parking facility for approx. 350 cars. The structure comes in addition to stage 1, which is 5,550 m2 in size with 288 workplaces, already under construction by Veidekke. Stage 1 is to be completed by 31 December 2011, while stage 2, including the parking facility, starts during the spring and is to be completed in September 2012.
The new office building will be 6 storeys high and will be linked to stage 1 by a two-storey connecting building housing a canteen, connecting corridor and meeting room. The parking facility will have 5 levels and facilitates the development of an even larger maritime community at Garpeskjær. Aibel has during the past year secured a number of major contracts that provide work for several hundred engineers, and the new building brings them together in the same premises.
The new office buildings will be located on the so-called Igloo site at Garpeskjær in Haugesund, and to make room for it, the remaining part of the cold storage plant ("the Igloo building") is to be demolished. The buildings will be constructed of concrete elements with load-bearing sandwich façade elements, columns and beams and with hollow floors as floor separators. The connecting building will consist of mainly steel and glass.
