Veidekke Launches Startbo: A UNIQUE CONCEPT FOR FIRST-TIME HOME BUYERS

Report this content
Veidekke has just introduced a unique housing concept, Startbo. The concept gives young people the opportunity to buy their own home and allows them to expand the home in step with their needs.

Everyone can afford it
By combining own use of the flat and renting out, the net expenses per month will be very low. The net expenses will be just NOK 3,500 a month for a 2-room flat with open kitchen facilities. The rental section of the flat includes lodgings with separate bathroom facilities and a separate entrance.

The rental section may very easily be included in the main flat when more room is required, since these rooms are originally a part of the flat, which has been separated by a locked door.

Price regulation
Because the flats are meant for young people, the conditions for buying a share are controlled. Applications for project subsidies will also be based on these provisions. Accordingly, the prices are regulated by a special set of rules in the housing co-operative's articles of association. Therefore, these flats cannot be used for speculative purposes.

Unique application of laws
The concept is based on a unique application of laws and regulations. Housing co-operatives' regulations, fiscal regulations as well as planning and building regulations have been applied.

A positive government
The government is very positive to projects that can provide easier access to the housing market for young people. That's why the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development was present when the Startbo project was introduced in Trondheim on August 21st 2001.
