Veidekke has now sold all its ready-mix concrete facilities, which include HG Betong in Larvik and 43% of the shares in HF Gruppen in Hønefoss. The buyer is Danish company Unicon Beton, which will also take over the remaining 57% of the shares in HF Gruppen. This company already owns Noco Betong in Kristiansand. By acquiring these three companies, Unicon Beton controls nearly 15% of the market for ready-mix concrete in Norway.

"By selling to Unicon Beton we are contributing to the competition in the market for ready mix concrete being dominated by professional concrete producers, and not by a few construction companies, says Mr. Dag Andresen, Senior Vice President and head of Veidekke's Industry Division.

"When we entered the ready-mix concrete industry some years ago, our objective was to hinder the development of a similar market structure in Norway as in Sweden, where our major competitors have a dominating position. Seen in isolation, it is of no strategic importance to us to be involved in the production of ready-mix concrete, as long as there is a real competition between professional players in the market, Mr. Andresen adds.

Unicon Beton is part of the company FLS Industries, which also owns Aalborg Cement. This company has a dominating share in the Danish cement market, and is a world leader in the production of white cement.

The boards of directors of the two companies have approved all agreements related to the sale. The finalization of the sale is now pending approval of the Ministry for trade and industry ("Nærings- og Handelsdepartementet"), which we expect to be due by the end of July.
