Veidekke to build primary school in Uppsala

Veidekke is to build a school in Lindbacken, a new district in Uppsala, on behalf of the City of Uppsala's school facilities organisation - Skolfastigheter. The school will accommodate 600 pupils from pre-school level to the sixth grade. The order has a value of SEK 130 million. Veidekke has previously been awarded a framework agreement by Skolfastigheter for refurbishments and extensions of schools and pre-schools.

Skolfastigheter has set high requirements in relation to the school building's environmental performance. Lindbacken School will be built to meet the requirements for certification as a silver environmental building by the Swedish Green Building Council (SGBC).
This means that pupils will be provided with a healthy indoor environment with good ventilation, appropriate construction materials will be used, and the school will benefit from low energy consumption.

'Veidekke has a long term investment in residential construction in Uppsala, which means it is especially gratifying to be involved in developing the community more generally. This project requires close collaboration between the client and subcontractors due to the tight deadline, which also tallies with out proactive way of working,' says Anthony Norén, Department Manager for Uppsala at Veidekke.

The school is being built under an execution contract with a focus on open and close dialogue between all involved parties. Construction will begin in May 2017, and the school will be ready for the beginning of the autumn term in 2018.

The school is divided into four different parts on different levels - i.e. at different heights - to ensure it adapts to the adjacent residential buildings. The various parts will be adapted for their purpose with both larger and smaller classrooms, specialist rooms and offices for teachers. The architecture focuses on both playfulness and accessibility, with clearly marked entrances in a variety of forms.
