Eidsiva Vannkraft has awarded Veidekke Entreprenør AS a contract to build the Rendalen 2 Power Plant. The value of the contract is approximately NOK 170 million, excluding VAT.

The power plant will be built in the mountain immediately next to the existing Rendalen Power Plant, which was completed in 1971.

The power plants will share a transfer tunnel up to the existing settling chamber. A new settling chamber, penstock and power station will be built. Parts of the existing spillway and access tunnel will be shared by the stations. A new cable tunnel will be blasted from the new access tunnel up to the new gate beside the existing one.

The power station uses a gross drop of 210 m between Glomma at Høyegga and Nordre Rena river by Lomnessjøen lake. The water is carried via a 29 km-long transfer tunnel with a cross section of 43 m2, and maximum permitted service water flow through the power plant according to the licence provisions is limited to 55 m3/s. Annual mean production in the existing station is approximately 680 GWh.

Work will start in mid-September 2009, with a total construction period of 36 months.
