Vestkanten AS, in which Olav Thon Eiendomsselskap ASA is majority owner, has awarded Veidekke Entreprenør AS the contract to extend Vestkanten shopping centre in Bergen. This will be a turnkey contract with a value of NOK 194 million excluding VAT.

The shopping centre will be extended southwards, with two new levels for shopping as well as car parking in the basement, at street level and on the roof. A new entrance road for customers and deliveries will be established at the rear of the property and several new technical rooms will be built. At the front of the centre, a new glass building will be erected, containing new access for the public by lifts and escalators. There will also be a new shopping area at street level.

Vestkanten is about 8 minutes from Bergen city centre, strategically located at the hub between Askøy and Fjell (Sotra), and is one of the largest shopping centres in the Bergen area.

Building work has already started and the new areas will be ready for use in November 2012, in time for Christmas shopping.
