Veidekke to participate in development of new district in Malmö, Sweden
Kalkbrottet in Limhamn, with its fine old traditions, is now facing the transformation of its "life". A completely new district with housing and commercial premises is to be built.
Together with HBS Malmö and the Danish property development company, Sjælsøgruppen, Veidekke Bostad AB will develop the area around Kalkbrottet, with its rich traditions, in Limhamn. Together, the three operators will build housing and commercial premises, which will make Kalkbrottet one of the most exciting development areas in Malmö.
In total, the new district will consist of 800 dwellings with various forms of tenure. In the first stage, consisting of about 390 dwellings, Veidekke Bostad AB will build about 100-150 dwellings, 10-20 of which will be terraced houses. It is expected that the sale of these dwellings will begin in the late autumn of 2008.
Kalkbrottet, which is now classed as a nature reserve, is a unique relic of Malmö's industrial history. From having been an enclosed area in the middle of the attractive Limhamn district, it will be opened up to the residents of Malmö over the next few years.
Veidekke's section of the development area is on the northern edge of Kalkbrottet, which means that all buildings will point to the south so as to catch the sun and the views over the dramatic landscape. The area is within walking and cycling distance of the centre of Limhamn.
The purchase price is SEK 41 million.
