Veidekke wins major contract in Uppsala

Veidekke has been commissioned by Fastighetsförädlarna AB (FFAB) to jointly develop a new urban structure in northern Uppsala with a mix of services in the form of the Nordic region's largest care home, a kindergarten and housing. The contract is a design and build contract valued at SEK 610 million excl. VAT.

"We are very pleased with the confidence shown in us, and with the cooperation with FFAB. This project shows that we have the expertise required to build both homes and commercial properties, and that we can provide our customers with added value," says Anthony Norén, who is responsible for Veidekkes building construction activities in Uppsala.

The project involves building 158 apartments, two nursing homes with a total of 200 care places which will be the largest in the Nordic region, and a kindergarten with four departments. Construction on the project will start in December 2017, and it is scheduled for completion in December 2020.

"By way of stable and involving cooperation throughout the process with Veidekke, we have a good basis to find sustainable and cost-effective solutions. This inspires confidence in what we will be able to pass on to our partners and customers," says Jacob Sandberg, CEO/Partner with Fastighetsförädlarna i Mälardalen AB.

The district is called Kapellgärdet, and is around one kilometre north of Uppsala city centre. The area has numerous green spaces and footpaths with Kapellgärdesparken as the centre. People will live in close proximity to shops, schools, kindergartens, green spaces and sports facilities.
