V82-1.65 MW order for Vestas in the USA
Vestas has received an order for 55 units of the V82-1.65 MW wind turbine in the
USA. The turbines, which have a total installed capacity of 91 MW, will be
delivered as the first phase of the Notrees Windpower project, located in Ector
and Winkler counties in Texas.
The order has been placed by Duke Energy, a leading energy company focused on
electric power and gas distribution operations, and other energy services in the
Americas. Duke Energy has more than 1,000 MW of wind assets under development in
the Western and Southwestern USA, including Texas and Wyoming. The Notrees
Windpower project is being developed and will be owned and operated by Duke
Energy.
Vestas will supply and commission the 55 wind turbines and provide service and
maintenance for three years. The turbines are scheduled for delivery in the
second half of 2008, and commissioning is expected to be completed at the end of
2008.
“We are extremely pleased with Duke Energy's order, which will add to the
existing projects in Texas for which Vestas has supplied wind turbines. Texas is
currently the leading wind state in the USA in terms of installed MW, and
clearly demonstrates how wind power brings not only clean and renewable energy,
but also increased economic activity and local jobs to a state or a community,”
says Jens Søby, President of Vestas Americas A/S. “We are very much looking
forward to working with Duke Energy on the Notrees Windpower project.”
The above order does not affect Vestas' expectations for 2007 and 2008, cf.
Company announcement No. 35/2007 of 6 November 2007.
