Vestas receives 74 MW order in Italy
Vestas has received an order from EDF Energies Nouvelles for delivery of 37 x
V90-2.0 MW wind turbines for Sardinia, Italy. The contract includes supply,
installation and commissioning of the turbines and a five-year service
agreement.
The wind turbines will be delivered to a project in the municipality of Bonorva
in Sardinia during 2009 and 2010.
At the end of 2008, EDF Energies Nouvelles had an installed capacity of 1,171 MW
in the Mediterranean countries (France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Turkey), and
almost half of this capacity comes from Vestas turbines.
This new order is the result of a close collaboration between EDF
Energies Nouvelles and Vestas' global key account team in France handling most
of EDF Energies Nouvelles' projects in Europe.
“We are very pleased with this new contract signed with EDF Energies Nouvelles
for the Italian market. The project confirms our excellent relationship with EDF
Energies Nouvelles. It shows the positive development of the wind energy market
in Italy and proves our positive expectations for this market,” says Juan
Araluce, President of Vestas Mediterranean.
“We are very satisfied with our collaboration with EDF Energies Nouvelles.
Through our global key account set-up, we are able to maintain a closer dialogue
with EDF Energies Nouvelles with the aim of better supporting the development of
all their wind projects across the countries. We firmly believe that the
establishment of our new Vestas office in La Défense in Paris will support the
development of an even closer relationship with EDF Energies Nouvelles going
forward,” concludes Juan Araluce.
“We have built a strong collaboration with Vestas over the years and this is the
third project we conduct in Sardinia with their support,” says Jean-Philippe
Salomé, Vice President for Engineering at EDF Energies Nouvelles. “The great
capacity to act which Vestas demonstrated in meeting our request is a key factor
of our success in this project. Furthermore, we believe in a positive wind
energy development in Sardinia.”
With a total installed capacity of 74 MW, the wind power plant will annually
save the environment from approximately 48,500 tons of CO2 emissions and will
cover the yearly electricity consumption of almost 50,000 Italian households.
The above order does not affect the Vestas Group's expectations for 2009, cf.
company announcement No. 4/2009 of 11 February 2009.
