Vianode selected as candidate for EU IPCEI grant
Vianode has been selected as one of five Norwegian candidates for an EU IPCEI grant, following the government’s and Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre’s decision to enroll Norway in IPCEI EuBatIn.
Vianode builds industrial leadership in advanced battery materials, by producing sustainable anode materials with significantly lower emissions compared to conventional production.
To succeed in building industry leadership in advanced battery materials, the company depends on competitive framework conditions. The Norwegian participation in IPCEI EUBatIn represents a major step in the right direction.
IPCEI is the abbreviation for “Important Project of Common European Interest” and are innovative projects in selected industrial areas that require coordinated cross-border efforts. The IPCEI projects are financial grants to promote investments in Europe to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness in the long term.

Vianode’s industrial pilot has been operational in Kristiansand, Norway for close to two years and Vianode is investing NOK 2 billion in a first-phase industrial plant at Herøya, Norway. The initiatives represent steps in a larger investment plan to establish industrial-scale production of battery materials in Norway for the European market.
Vianode’s materials have unique performance characteristics that improve battery properties. In electric vehicles, this includes faster charging, increased range, long service life, as well as increased safety and recyclability. The production process builds upon more than 100 years of experience within process and technology development. This core competence gives Vianode a strong position for sustainable growth.

IPCEI is a transnational project with an important contribution to the growth, employment and competitiveness of the European Union industry and economy funded by state aid. A two-part IPCEI has been implemented to promote battery production: the IPCEI on Batteries and the IPCEI European Battery Innovation (EuBatIn). Both IPCEIs have in common that their participants represent the complete value chain, from material through the cells to the battery system and the final recycling step.
