NENT Group restarts Nordic action thriller ‘The Machinery’ for second season
- Kristoffer Joner (‘The Revenant’; ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’) reprises starring role in new season
- Season one set viewing records on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service
- NENT Group to premiere at least 50 original productions in 2021
Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) and Norwegian superstar Kristoffer Joner (Hollywood’s ‘The Revenant’; ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’) will reunite for a new season of the hit Viaplay Original ‘The Machinery’. The first season of the high-tempo Nordic action thriller series broke viewing records on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service, and the six-part sequel will premiere exclusively on Viaplay in 2022.
The new season of ‘The Machinery’ (Norwegian title: ‘Maskineriet’) continues the dramatic story of Olle Hultén (Kristoffer Joner), a family man forced on the run after waking up on a ferry between Norway and Sweden beside a mysterious bag of cash and a gun. Now serving a jail term, Olle is accused of involvement in a murder committed by his ex-wife Monika (Emilia Roosman), and is again thrown into a rapid sequence of events driven by his own hidden past.
Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group Chief Content Officer: “The key to ‘The Machinery’ is its depiction of what seemingly ordinary people can do when their lives are turned upside down. Kristoffer Joner is one of Norway’s biggest screen talents and he makes us feel every scar his character collects in this breathless series. The Viaplay viewer response to ‘The Machinery’ so far shows the huge potential of the Nordic action genre.”
Kristoffer Joner: “I’m ready for another beating from the guys behind ‘The Machinery’. We delivered a super-intense first season, and now I’m looking forward to helping make round two even more brutal. I won’t be satisfied until viewers have sweat marks on their couch.”
Season one co-stars Hanna Alström (‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’) and Julia Schacht (‘Melk’) will again take up their roles in ‘The Machinery’ season two, joined by director Richard Holm (NENT Group’s ‘Honour’). The series is produced by Anagram Sweden.
