Viaplay will premiere a second season of the record-breaking Norwegian Viaplay Original ‘Furia’ in 2023. A dark and multi-layered drama that explores the disturbing underworld of right-wing terrorism, ‘Furia’ is created by International Emmy winner Gjermund Stenberg Eriksen (‘Mammon’) and stars Nordic and international talents Ine Marie Wilmann (‘Sonja: The White Swan’), Pål Sverre Hagen (‘Kon-Tiki’) and Borys Szyc (the Oscar-nominated Polish film ‘Cold War’). The series is co-produced by Paprika Studios, part of Viaplay Studios, and Monster Scripted, with global sales by Viaplay Content Distribution.

The second season of ‘Furia’ takes place two years after the first. Security police agents Ragna (Ine Marie Wilmann) and Asgeir (Pål Sverre Hagen) continue to battle extremist forces in Norway – but when an undercover mission goes wrong, the two are forced into a new race against time to foil a terrorist plot that takes them from the Arctic landscape of Lofoten to Budapest’s cobbled streets and the bustling heart of Warsaw.

Gjermund Stenberg Eriksen: “The new season will push the boundary of how exciting a Nordic thriller can be – and how beautiful and warm it can be, too. Although the show is about the darkest and most dangerous movements of recent decades, the audience will feel the warmth between the characters. And the story starts in Lofoten, so it can’t get any more beautiful. Im incredibly happy to continue collaborating with Viaplay.”

Filippa Wallestam, Viaplay Group Chief Content Officer: “The initial run of ‘Furia’ delivered Viaplay’s most-watched Original premiere in Norway. Since then, the quality and topicality of the show has made it a huge success with viewers across all our markets. The storytelling ambitions and European angle are even broader in season two, which reflects Viaplay’s ongoing commitment to creating truly compelling original content.”

The six-part series co-stars Tarjei Sandvik Moe (‘Skam’), Iren Reppen (‘Himmelblå’), Hallvard Holmen (‘Wisting’), Maria Mena and Henrik Schyffert (‘A Class Apart’).

‘Furia’ season two is scripted by Embla Veier Bugge, Mikkel Bugge, Ingar Johnsrud and Gjermund Stenberg Eriksen, and directed by Gjermund Stenberg Eriksen, Michał Rogalski (‘Summer Solstice’) and Magnus Martens, the director of episodes of major US series such as ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, ‘The Walking Dead: World Beyond’ and ‘Good Behavior’. The producers are Monster Scripted’s Cathrine Simonsen and Roy Anderson, with Kari Moen Kristiansen as executive producer for Viaplay Group.
