Alternative Fuel Roadshow Series Launches at Propane Industry Centennial Celebration Rally & Parade
ATLANTA – April 12, 2012 – Fleet vehicles in the Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program will join more than 50 propane autogas vehicles from around the country at the Propane Clean Air Rally and Autogas Parade this Saturday in Atlanta. Program administering organization Virginia Clean Cities partnered with Clean Cities-Atlanta to provide Georgia-based Program vehicles for the Atlanta event, which is the first in a series of Program roadshows educating local fleets, government and communities about the benefits of propane autogas.
Hosted by the National Propane Gas Association, the parade and rally kick off the industry’s Centennial Celebration by putting the spotlight on propane autogas, the world’s most widely used alternative fuel. Event organizers aim to set a new Guinness World Records™ for the most propane autogas vehicles in one parade.
“Propane autogas is a clean, affordable, American-made fuel that’s widely available, now,” says Virginia Clean Cities Executive Director Alleyn Harned. “With the Program roadshow series, we hope to boost awareness and encourage adoption of autogas among public and private fleet managers across the region.”
Free and open to the public, the rally will begin at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in Centennial Olympic Park in the heart of Atlanta. There will be a press conference from 1-2 p.m. in the park’s amphitheatre, followed by a ride and drive. Program partners showcasing vehicles at the rally and parade include: Muscogee County, Carroll County and Jackson County Sheriff’s Offices; the City of Sandy Springs; and certified conversion center Force 911. Fleet managers, city officials and community members alike are encouraged to test drive the high-performance autogas vehicles.
“There’s nothing like a hands-on test drive experience to really get an idea of the performance of propane autogas vehicles,” says Don Francis, director of Clean Cities-Atlanta. “Autogas vehicles can experience 90 percent fuel efficiency compared to gasoline vehicles while saving drivers more than $1.25 per gallon at the pump. And with 98 percent of U.S. autogas produced in North America, it’s a sound investment in our nation’s energy security.”
About the Program
The Program is putting more than 1,200 clean autogas vehicles on the road and implementing more than 30 autogas fueling stations throughout 10 Southeast states, Denver and Pittsburgh. Program fleets have eliminated nearly 130 tons of greenhouse gases and displaced more than 110,000 gallons of gasoline as of last month. Alliance AutoGas provides fueling infrastructure and conversion equipment for Program fleets, utilizing the PRINS VSI system from co-founding partner American Alternative Fuel, with fuel supply from fellow co-founding partner Blossman Gas.
