Vizrt demonstrates live 4K immersive graphics with Red Digital Cinema and Ncam
Collaboration with RED Digital Cinema and Ncam gives real-time camera tracking and rendering for enhanced reality in 4K
Vizrt, a leading provider of content production systems for the digital media industry, together with Red Digital Cinema and Ncam, will be showing visitors how high precision, immersive graphics integrated with live 4K pictures can be achieved with a handheld camera at NAB 2015 (booth SL2417).
The demonstration will show a handheld EPIC RED DRAGON camera, fitted with an Ncam Live tracking system, shooting 4K images at Vizrt’s booth. These images will then be processed through Vizrt’s real-time 3D compositing system, Viz Engine, which adds virtual elements to create an immersive augmented reality experience of 4K live video aired in real time. The 4K video passes through Viz Engine using one Matrox X.mio3 and the graphics are added to the video with the new NVIDIA Quadro M6000 graphics card. The output will be shown on a Christie Quad HD 84” display.
The combined setup offers the unique ability to create immersive graphics tied to a freely moving camera, at full 4K resolution, and allows the operator to capture quick shots at any location. In turn, producers have the ability to very quickly set up a shot from any location, with immersive graphics added for branding purposes and production value.
“Through this collaboration with our partners, Ncam and RED Digital Cinema, we are able to show how media companies can easily bring together 4K immersive graphics and live video on the go just as easily as they do in HD,” said Gerhard Lang, Chief Engineering Officer at Vizrt.
Vizrt’s CTO, Petter Ole Jakobsen added: “Broadcasters and production companies are keen to experiment in 4K to see what new opportunities it unveils and to revel in the sheer beauty of 4K resolution. As the industry looks at the advantages of 4K and how they can develop high-value content, this is something that we are bringing to our customers to help them better evaluate and enhance their 4K plans.”
