Rental e-scooter and e-bike company Voi is giving power to the people with free rides to polling stations on 2 May 2024.
Voters in Cambridge, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Liverpool, London, Northamptonshire, Oxford, Portsmouth and Southampton are eligible for two free 15-minute rides on Thursday, 2 May enabling them to get to and from polling stations with ease.
Riders should enter the code VOTE to their Voi app digital wallet, and activate on polling day.
E-scooters and e-bikes have become increasingly important as a sustainable form of transport in the UK, with over 32 million rides taken since trials commenced.
Jim Hubbard, senior policy manager, Voi UK, said, “We’ve been pleased by the local support of e-scooters and e-bikes in cities ranging from London to Liverpool, and in return, we’re encouraging voters to participate in local democracy by offering free rides on 2 May.
“Voi e-scooters and e-bikes are a safe, sustainable and reliable form of transport to get to your polling place and are also a vote for cleaner, greener, healthier UK towns and cities.
“We consistently hear from our riders that they’d like to see more investment prioritising safety to encourage more sustainable transport. We encourage voters to ask local politicians to prioritise the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and e-scooter riders by investing in cycling and active travel infrastructure.
“We also hope local elections act as a springboard to encourage MPs to legislate for the future of e-scooters and e-bikes providing certainty to riders across the UK and that new cities are able to introduce rental e-scooters where there is local support.”
Without action, e-scooter trials are scheduled to end in May 2026.
