Riding an e-scooter isn’t only good for the environment - it’s also good for your pocket, this is the message from Gloucestershire’s new e-scooter operator.

Gloucestershire County Council has chosen Voi to provide an e-scooter service in Cheltenham and Gloucester from 1 August and the company has revealed several low cost ways of using the service.

While prices start at just 99p to unlock a scooter and then 17p a minute for pay as you go - cheaper than the towns’ current e-scooters - there are many ways to ride the e-scooters for less.

Discounts of between 20 - 50% are available through the “Voi 4 Discounts” scheme with further details on Voi’s website.

Disabled people, those on a low income, over 65-year-olds and refugee/asylum seekers can apply for a 50% Voi 4 All discount.

Students, apprentices and those working in higher education can get a Voi 4 Students pass which gives 20% off rides.

A 20% discount is also available for NHS workers, Blue Light card holders, military personnel and veterans through the Voi 4 Heroes scheme.

From day one, a day pass will be available for £9.99 which gives 60 minutes of rides and free unlocks throughout the day.

Voi will introduce further passes after analysing how riders like to travel with Voi in Cheltenham and Gloucester.

There are also a range of free minutes for people who complete safety training provided by Voi on its app, website, and in webinars or in-person safety events.

People should also look out for a special introductory offer for 15 free minutes of rides which will be displayed on “hangers” on the scooters.

Jordan Reid, City Success Manager for Voi, responsible for the Cheltenham and Gloucester service, said: “We are keen to make our service in Gloucestershire as affordable as possible, so we’re starting in August with cheap pay-as-you-go prices and a special offer, plus our usual discounts.

“We’ll then analyse how people are using our scooters in Cheltenham and Gloucester and tailor-make passes just for them to provide the best possible value for residents.

“Using our carbon-neutral  e-scooters, especially to replace car or motorbike journeys, is a great way to do your bit for the environment - and it’s affordable too.”

Cllr David Gray, cabinet member for environment and planning at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “I would encourage people to take advantage of these special offers and discounts available for Voi e-scooters. E-scooters can be an important mode of sustainable travel and these offers help to make them affordable for residents.”

To ride a Voi e-scooter, download the Voi app, upload a copy of your full or provisional driving licence, take a selfie and complete the online safety driving school. Use the app to find the nearest vehicle, scan a QR code to unlock and ride. Voi advises riders to wear helmets. All riders must be aged 18 or over.
