People in Cambridge will be encouraged to look at how to make commuting in the city more sustainable with a free seminar on Thursday 21 September.

The event, ‘Greening the Cambridge Commute: Building Sustainable Work Travel Solutions’ is being held by shared e-scooter company, Voi, in partnership with Cambridge Ahead and the University of Cambridge.

Taking place during national TravelWise Week, It aims to look at the importance of sustainable transport for businesses and its future in Cambridge and the UK.

This session will discuss sustainable transport options in the workplace and highlight the pioneering "Travel at Work" pilot programme run by Voi and the University of Cambridge which provides free, sustainable travel alternatives to University employees, offering a green substitute to traditional car-based travel.

Tim Bellamy, Head of Transport at Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority will also give an overview of the e-scooter trial in Cambridge, which is operated by Voi.

The free seminar will take place on Wednesday 21 September at Rayleigh Room, Maxwell Centre, JJ Thomson Avenue, 9-11.30am.Reserve your spot for the in-person session here.

The session will end with a Q&A and an opportunity to try an e-scooter and e-bike.

Jim Hubbard, Voi’s Senior Public Policy Manager, who will speak at the event, said, “Reducing car dependency and decarbonising urban transport is seen as a vital step in achieving the UK government’s goal of achieving net zero and improving the well-being and efficiency of cities.

“Cambridge is already leading the way as a city famous for its many cyclists.

“If we can build on that and encourage even more people to commute sustainably we can make a real difference to the city as with no emissions, every single e-scooter trip that replaces a car journey in Cambridge is helping to improve the air quality and transform it into cleaner and healthier place to live, work and visit.
