Voi is deploying its new state-of-the-art electronic bikes in Oxford this summer.

The company, which already operates e-scooters in the city, has just launched a fleet of 100 new e-bikes in the city.

E-bikes can be hired from the existing e-scooter parks around Oxford and must be returned to them.

To use the bikes, people will need to sign up to Voi and unlock the bikes with the Voi app. There is no requirement to have a driving licence in order to ride the e-bikes, unlike e-scooters. The bikes are available for anyone aged 16 or over.

Prices, passes and Voi discounts are the same for Voi e-bikes and e-scooters.

Features of Voi’s top-of-the-range hi-tech e-bike include automatic gears that adjust to riding conditions, a low step-through frame and adjustable unisex seat suitable for all heights.

A dual kickstand ensures the bike remains upright when not in use.

Enhanced safety features include high-grip tyres, a powerful braking system, front and rear lights which switch on automatically when the bike is unlocked, reflectors and an easy-to-use bell.

The bike is powered by a swappable battery which is compatible with the company’s e-scooters.

James Bolton, general manager for Voi UK, said: “We are sure people in Oxford will find our e-bikes a great addition to transport options in the city.

“We’ve had brilliant feedback from riders when we’ve launched this new e-bike in other locations in the UK and abroad.”

E-bikes can be used on the same tracks and cycle paths as pedal bikes - enabling riders to beat traffic jams and travel without causing pollution.

Commenting on Voi’s e-bike launch, Councillor Liz Leffman, leader of Oxfordshire County Council, said: “Offering more opportunities for people to move around Oxford easily is very welcome. I’m very excited that the city is now benefitting from public bike hire that can be easily accessed and presents the chance to use e-bikes in city travel without cost being an obstacle.”
