Voi e-scooter riders in Cheltenham and Gloucester clock up over 63,000 rides in 2023

Gloucestershire, 20 December 2023: Over 63,000 rides have been taken on a Voi e-scooter in Cheltenham and Gloucester since the company took over the Gloucestershire service in August this year.   

Based on rider surveys, the rides have replaced over 24,000 car journeys, the micromobility company reports.

The amount of CO2 saved is the equivalent of that produced by one car trip around the world.

Jack Samler, Voi regional general manager UK, Ireland and France, said, “It’s been rewarding to work with our UK trial partners in providing safe, sustainable travel options to help create cleaner, healthier towns and cities.

“Our convenient and affordable e-scooters and e-bikes are helping to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution in towns and cities by replacing short car trips and are helping people to be more active day to day.”

Cllr David Gray, cabinet member for environment and planning at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “I’m pleased to see a growing number of people have been using Voi e-scooters for short journeys. They are a convenient, low-carbon way of getting around and I hope even more people try them out next year.”

Together Voi riders across the UK clocked up 15 million miles in 2023.

In a recent user survey, 27% of UK users said they no longer use cars and 42% said they use cars less, in favour of e-scooters, showing good progress towards more sustainable urban transport.

This year Voi started operations in London as well as in  Cheltenham and Gloucester. It also operates in 10 other towns and cities in the UK, including Cambridge, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Northampton and Kettering and Liverpool.
