Micromobility rental company, Voi, is calling on the UK public to ask their political candidates to prioritise scooting and cycling if they are elected, to help make the country’s towns and cities cleaner and greener.

A new blog on the company’s website recommends a series of questions people can ask their parliamentary candidates ahead of the General Election on 4 July.

At the moment, only rental e-scooters are legal in the UK, but they can only operate in cities and towns which are part of the UK government e-scooter trials.

The UK government e-scooter trials started in 2020 and were supposed to gather data ahead of legislation being introduced to make e-scooters permanent. However, the government has successively delayed legislation by extending the trials - most recently until May 2026.

This means that nowhere other than the current trial locations can enjoy the benefits of rental e-scooters.

James Bolton, Voi General Manager, UK, said, “The next Government will decide whether you're able to Voi in your community. Let your voice be heard: tell your candidates to prioritise reducing carbon emissions and cleaning up our towns and cities.

“Micromobility reduces dependency on cars, boosts sustainable and accessible transport, and improves air quality in your community.”

He adds, “We have urged the government to bring in legislation to make e-scooters permanent so more towns and cities can benefit from this safe, affordable and sustainable transport.

“We want the government to empower local communities to decide if and how they can utilise e-scooters through the introduction of e-scooter legislation making them fully legal once and for all.”

Voi currently operates in Cambridge, Cheltenham, Corby, Gloucester, Kettering, Liverpool, London, Northampton, Oxford, Portsmouth, Rushden & Higham Ferrers, Southampton, and Wellingborough.
