"It is important to protect such properties as they may be crime scenes."

Video of a house being secured as a possible crime scene were posted online by the Daily Mail yesterday as police requested VPS, the UK's leading vacant property specialist, to carry out the work for the home of a suspect in a murder case.

The BBC has reported that a 59-year-old man from York has been arrested on suspicion of murdering missing chef Claudia Lawrence, who disappeared in the city in 2009.

"We are often asked to respond to a police request when they need a property quickly secured." says Anthony Owen, Managing Director for VPS. "It's not a pleasant job, but it is important to protect such properties as they may be crime scenes."

"When it comes to houses, we are more usually asked to help local authorities and housing associations to help clean and clear void properties in readiness for new tenants. But where a murder is suspected of having taken place, the police forensic teams are the first in and then we get a call to help secure the premises." Mr Owen explains.
