County governor Friggebo opens quilt exhibition at county museum After attracting considerable attention internationally, it will soon be Sweden's turn to see some of the world's finest patchwork quilts. On January 19th 2002, county governor Birgit Friggebo will be unveiling the quilt exhibition, "Keeping the world sewing" at the County museum in Jönköping. The exhibition was organised by Viking Sewing Machines AB of Huskvarna, which is celebrating its 130th anniversary. "We have had a fantastic reception all over the world. The fact that there should be so much interest in artistic quilts came as a bit of a surprise," says Lill Nylén of Viking Sewing Machines. The exhibition is the result of the company's international quilt competition, "Keeping the world sewing", which was held in 1998. As well as the overall winner, they also selected a winner from each part of the world from amongst the entries sent in from 22 countries. The winning entry and a large number of other high-quality artistic quilts (80 quilts in all) have been touring the world since then. The exhibition will be at the County museum in Jönköping from January 19th to February 24th. It will then go on to Japan, until, after being on tour for nearly two years, the quilts are returned to their respective creators around the world. ------------------------------------------------------------ This information was brought to you by Waymaker http://www.waymaker.net The following files are available for download: http://www.waymaker.net/bitonline/2002/11/18/20021118BIT00480/wkr0001.doc http://www.waymaker.net/bitonline/2002/11/18/20021118BIT00480/wkr0002.pdf
