Sewing machine maker targets US quilt market Sewing machine manufacturer Viking Sewing Machines is one of the main sponsors of the world's largest quilt fair, the Houston International Quilt Festival, in Houston Texas, from 27 October - 4 November 2001. Viking Sewing Machines is organising an international quilt competition and an exhibition of advanced and artistic quilts from all round the world. The company will also demonstrate its very latest computerised sewing machine, the Quilt Designer. The US launch of the Quilt Designer signals Viking Sewing Machines' serious intent on the large - and growing - market for quilt making. In the USA alone, quilt making is the main hobby of over 20 million adults; it is also rapidly gaining in popularity in Sweden. In addition to all the standard sewing machine functions, the Quilt Designer also features a unique sensor system, touch screen control, sewing guide, automatic thread cutter, disk unit for smart cards, extra long free arm and can sew the special seams used in quilt making.
