Kobelco Eco-Solutions and VTT announce cooperation in development of novel environmental technology
Kobelco Eco-Solutions (KES) and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) have signed an agreement on cooperation to develop new environmental solutions which are especially related to water and waste issues. The agreement was signed in December 2012 and will be valid for five years.
One of the partners’ objectives is to develop cost-effective and ecological technologies for exploiting waste materials in order to produce new raw materials. Certain waste waters, for example, may contain small amounts of precious metals or other scarce materials. In the case of noteworthy total volumes of waste water, capturing of these materials may be profitable.
Another example of the research targets is a project for recovering phosphorus from sludge or waste water.
The technologies developed by the partners will best serve infrastructures with high population density and large amounts of waste water.
Kobelco Eco-Solutions Co., Ltd brings proven technical skills, expertise, and development capability in advanced technology to environment-related fields such as water purification, waste water treatment, waste disposal and recycling. As a core Group company of Kobe Steel Ltd, it addresses a wide range of needs in line with moves to create a recycling-based society. FY2011’s sales are 71billion yen (approx. 646 million euros).
