Water-powered drilling technology drills straighter, deeper and more environmental friendly

The Swedish company LKAB Wassara is displaying their water-powered drilling technology at Bauma 2013. The technology, known for its high precision drilling and minimal impact on the environment, has been developed in Swedish mines. It has enabled the Swedish mining company LKAB to drastically cut their operational costs. After completing it with more sizes and models, the water-powered drilling technology is suitable for applications within ground engineering, dam rehabilitation and exploration drilling.

The heart in the system is the world-patented DTH hammer. Using water as power transmission makes the hammer suitable for drilling in most applications and optimal for use in areas where it’s difficult or even impossible to use other technologies. The use of water for both powering and lubricating the hammer is the secret behind all benefits with this technology.

–     We are exhibiting at Bauma 2013 to show companies in ground engineering, dam rehabilitation and exploration the difference the water-powered technology makes, says Kent Boström, Communications Manager at LKAB Wassara. This technology has unmatched advantages in sensitive urban environments, water-rich formations and dam rehabilitation.

18 million well-documented meters in mines
Wassara is a subsidiary to the Swedish mining company LKAB, a world leading producer of processed iron ore products for steelmaking.

–     LKAB has been using this technology for their blast holes for over 20 years and has drilled more than 18 million meters, all well documented. We have completed it with more sizes and models that are used in ground engineering, dam rehabilitation and exploration drilling, says Kent Boström.

Kent continues:

–     We have in the recent year also built an organization that is designed to handle the demand from the market. We now have the technology, resources and references to achieve success outside the mining industry. We look forward with confidence to 2013 as the start of something big.

Wassara will be showing several cases where the water-powered technology is superior:

•     The salvage of the cruise liner Costa Concordia in Italy

•     The rehabilitation of the leaking big dam Wolf Creek in the US

•     The Swedish mining company LKAB

Welcome to meet us in Munich, January 29 and 30.
