Celebrate Arbor Weekend at Wave Hill! April 24–26, 2015
Extend your Arbor Day celebration with a full weekend of tree-themed activities at Wave Hill! Enjoy a variety of tree walks and talks, craft and cooking demonstrations, and a forest-focused Family Art Project. Arbor Weekend also marks the opening of Night Lights at Wave Hill—on Friday or Sunday evening, explore the grounds after dark, and take in an animated light installation by award-winning artist Chris Doyle.
Arbor Weekend programs are generously sponsored by Almstead Tree, Shrub & Lawn Care. With the exception of Night Lights at Wave Hill, all Arbor Weekend events are free with admission to the grounds and do not require registration.

Tree TLC with Wayne: An Arbor Day Walk and Demonstration, Friday, April 24, 1PM
Both young and old trees need care to thrive. Wander among centuries-old trees and newly planted specimens with Assistant Director of Horticulture Wayne Morris as he discusses and demonstrates practical tree care, including basic pruning techniques. For homeowners and tree-lovers alike!
Family Art Project: Buds, Buds, Buds, Saturday & Sunday, April 25 & 26, 10AM–1PM
Explore the myriad shapes and sizes of some of Wave Hill’s many budding trees. Sketch the nearby magnolia tree. Then, using paper, a wooden base and a variety of natural materials, make your own sculptural tree.
Junior Arborist Station, Saturday, April 25, 11AM–3PM
Kids ages 7 and up are invited to drop by to don tree-climbing harnesses and hardhats and ascend into the canopy of our old sugar maple tree to get a birds-eye view of Wave Hill. On hand to assist, as well as answer questions about the trees at Wave Hill, are arborists from Almstead Tree, Shrub & Lawn Care.
In the Shop: Woodturner Chris Busak, Saturday & Sunday, April 25 & 26, 11AM–4PM
In celebration of Arbor Weekend, woodturning artist Chris Busak presents a demonstration in The Shop, with a limited collection of bowls turned from the wood of the much-loved copper beech tree that had to come down in 2014. On Sunday, enjoy a maple syrup tasting alongside the demonstration.
Fifty Years of Trees Walk, Saturday, April 25, 1PM & Sunday, April 26, 11AM
To celebrate Wave Hill’s 50th anniversary, stroll through the gardens with staff horticultural interpreters to see extraordinary trees planted in the last five decades. Compare them with historical images to see how these treasures have become defining elements in the landscape. Wave Hill at 50 Event.
Maple Madness: Cooking with Maple Syrup, Sunday, April 26, 1PM
Think maple syrup is only for pancakes? Discover delicious and creative ways to cook with maple syrup with a chef from Great Performances, Wave Hill’s exclusive caterer. Enjoy maple-flavored dishes, then drop by the Shop at Wave Hill to sample different grades of syrup and other maple products. Purchase your favorites to take home.
