Give the moms in your life the gift of a memorable Mother’s Day visit to Wave Hill.  Whether an intimate day just for you and your mom, or a fun outing with the whole family, Wave Hill’s blooming gardens and stunning vistas are the perfect setting for creating new memories.

With a special Family Art Project, Family Gallery Tour, May Day Basket Workshop and a trunk show in The Shop at Wave Hill, the weekend before Mother’s Day is the perfect time to prepare for―or get started early―celebrating moms. Then on Mother’s Day, treat her to a session of Hatha Yoga, a perfect strategy for reducing mom-related stress, especially when practiced in a quiet corner of our splendid gardens. Join an early morning birding walk with naturalist Gabriel Willow, or a relaxed saunter through the gardens on a guided afternoon walk. Come either weekend, or both, to share some wonderful time with Mom in what is one of New York City’s most spectacular outdoor landscapes.

Quick facts

Theodore Roosevelt's family rented Wave Hill during the summers of 1870 and ‘71, when the future president was a youth of 12 and 13. Teddy's time here significantly deepened his love of nature and love of the outdoors that would later prompt him to secure the preservation of millions of acres of American parkland.

Mark Twain leased the estate from 1901-1903, setting up a treehouse parlor in the branches of a chestnut tree on the lawn. Of winter at Wave Hill he wrote, I believe we have the noblest roaring blasts here I have ever known on land; they sing their hoarse song through the big tree-tops with a splendid energy that thrills me and stirs me and uplifts me and makes me want to live always.
