Explore the glory of spring with a series of guided walks through Wave Hill’s vibrant landscape! See the best blooms of the season on a Garden Highlights Walk.  Indulge your inner history buff with a Wave Hill History Walk, then continue your education with a Neighborhood History Walk that encompasses the significant homes and landscapes of Riverdale. Celebrate Arbor Day with two special walk-and-talks: Tree TLC with Wayne: An Arbor Day Walk and Demonstration, with Assistant Director of Horticulture Wayne Morris; and a Fifty Years of Trees Walk, part of Wave Hill’s ongoing 50th anniversary celebration. And don’t forget—you can bring your little ones along for three Family Walks, held one Sunday a month after the Family Art Project. It’s time to get walking!

Walks are free with admission to the grounds and, unless noted, do not require advance registration.

Wave Hill History Walks, Saturdays, April 18 and May 16, 11AM

Discover the history of Wave Hill’s architecture and landscape on a walk with a Wave Hill Garden Guide. Hear about those who once called Wave Hill home, among them Mark Twain, Teddy Roosevelt, Bashford Dean and Arturo Toscanini.

                  

Family Walks

After the Family Art Project, continue exploring the theme on a family-friendly walk through the gardens or woodlands, led by naturalist and educator Gabriel Willow. Children ages six and older welcome with an adult.

Tree TLC with Wayne: An Arbor Day Walk and Demonstration, Friday, April 24, 1PM

Both young and old trees need care to thrive. Wander among centuries-old trees and newly-planted specimens with Assistant Director of Horticulture Wayne Morris as he discusses and demonstrates practical tree care, including basic pruning techniques. For homeowners and tree-lovers alike. Arbor Weekend Event.

Fifty Years of Trees Walk, Saturday, April 25, 1PM and Sunday, April 26, 11AM

To celebrate Arbor Day and Wave Hill’s 50th Anniversary, stroll through the gardens with staff horticultural interpreters to see extraordinary trees planted in the last five decades. Compare them with historical images to see how these treasures have become defining elements in the landscape. Arbor Weekend and Wave Hill at 50 Event.

Neighborhood History Walk, Saturday, May 2, 1PM

When Wave Hill opened as a public institution in 1965, it continued the tradition of community involvement established by the last private owner of the estate, George W. Perkins, early in the 20thcentury. Join historian Deirdre Laporte on a walk through the neighborhood to visit significant homes and landscapes and learn about their historical connections to Wave Hill. Wave Hill at 50 EventRegistration required, online or onsite at the Perkins Visitor Center.
