Kristyna and Marek Milde’s Sofa Wilderness Sunroom Project Opens May 23

Wave Hill’s serene and verdant landscape has been an inspiration to many artists, past and present, and Kristyna and Marek Milde are no exception. Through July 6, their installation in Glyndor Gallery’s Sunroom Project Space offers a unique way to examine the effects of architecture, design and interior space on how we see and relate to the outside world. Their work creates a shift when plant material from outdoors is placed inside the gallery space.

At Wave Hill, they develop the idea of transplanting the natural site indoors. Their Sunroom Project, Hills and Valleys of the Sofa Wilderness, transfers a piece of woodland floor into containers that are shaped like a couch and a chair and filled with ferns, moss, grasses and stones, sourced from Manitoga in Garrison, NY. The installation evokes the feeling of a lounge, where visitors experience the natural landscape from the comfort of a domestic interior.
