"Bullying prevention starts in the trenches” not on TV, says America’s Anti-Bullying crusader, Wayne Soares. Calls for parents, teachers and youth to work together to push against the epidemic of bullying.

Boston, MA October 13, 2011America’s Students better get ready – this 6’4 anti-bullying behemoth is coming to town to tell it like it is. With a little dash of humor, a lot of compassion and first-hand experiences to relate, Soares remains an incomparable advocate and inspiration for teens.

With the hefty media coverage continuing across the airwaves this week with specials galore on CNN, Soares contends that although the massively publicized “Stop Bullying: Speak UP” campaign touches on several critical components of the epidemic it lacks what many such “programs” do.

“Reports and stats are great – but what we need is less talking heads on the television screen – and more of the dirty work. We need to be in the trenches with our kids – educating and informing. Every school, every parent and every student across this nation needs to step it up to break the cycle. No more innocent lives should be lost or damaged due to our inaction.” – Wayne Soares

Soares focuses a large amount of attention on the students themselves – he knows firsthand that bullying behavior is rooted in self-esteem issues, despite what new reports aim to suggest.

“A bully often selects their target based on a need for control stemming from their own self-esteem issues. Sometimes they are simply preying on someone they believe to be a weaker counterpart. Yet, I believe that often it goes much deeper than that. A bully has a deep seated desire to exert a physical and/or emotional dominance over another person, and very few bullies care to be David. They want to be Goliath,” says Soares.

In keeping with the mission of last year’s “Bullying is NOT Cool” nationwide ride, Soares continues to gain momentum with an upcoming sweep across the heartland this fall. Fresh from an appearance on the LA based radio show “My Crew Magazine with Kim Kelly” –where he discussed contemporary issues in the teenage years - he continues to work with and for these lucky students – to make their schools a better, more comfortable place to be.

Soares will embark on a multi-stop Anti-Bullying tour through the mid-west this October that will take him to 30 schools. It is anticipated that he will share his strategies with more than 4,000 school children.

Mr. Soares is a motivational speaker, actor and author. He has penned The Power of Your Actions & Words, Are you a Good Sport and The Big Game. As a sports broadcaster, he covered professional football and baseball for ESPN and The New York METS. His work as a comedian has seen him entertain private citizens and our nation’s troops - he has worked with the USO, The US Air Force and The US Army. His nationwide tour, Bullying is NOT Cool has allowed him to speak to more than 10,000 students, and he has been a featured “MVP in Character” for The Basketball Hall of Fame for 8 years. As a corporate trainer, he has worked with executives from Ocean Spray, The United States Air Force and the American Cancer Society.
