Waystream updates its portfolio of access-switches in the MS7000 and ASR8000 series with models that support 48V DC power. By enabling switches to be connected to direct current power it becomes easier for operators to ensure continuous operation using battery backup power.

The new models support 48V DC power which simplifies for operators to use battery backup as part of the solution to handle power outages. In addition the switches are also available as extended temperature variants suitable for installation in street cabinets.

"Many countries have regulatory requirements for high availability and as fiber networks importance increase it is essential that also access networks can continue to operate in case of power outages. Where networks are built using street cabinets with limited room for air conditioning and backup power, the combination of 48V DC power and extended temperature support become crucial features", says Fredrik Nyman, product manager at Waystream.

The MS7000 and ASR8000 series were introduced on the market last year and have quickly been adopted by the market for deployment and upgrade of fiber networks. The new models are available as of May 2020.
