CHEMICAL SUPPLY CHAIN CONFERENCE - INTERVIEW WITH PATRICK BIAN FROM CABOT CORPORATION

Report this content

Patrick Bian from Cabot Corporation and speaker at SCMchem 2010 conference - LogiChem's counterpart in the USA - talks about a more effective business model that utilises e-sourcing

The old cumbersome process of sending dozens of e-mails with complicated spreadsheets for freight tenders in chemical supply chains is a thing of the past. Many companies are transitioning to a more effective business model that utilises e-sourcing platforms to optimise and organise bids and mitigate risk. With these tools companies can simultaneously collect all quotes and provide feedback so that supply chain objectives can be defined upfront. Patrick Bian, Global Logistics Director for Cabot Corporation, discusses this topic and gives examples of how these new tools help manage logistics of the supply chain such as carrier management and also assist in the negotiation process.

LogiChem is recognised by the chemical supply chain community as THE opportunity for the most senior chemical supply chain & global logistics directors from the European chemicals community to come together, share experiences, make new contacts and benchmark the latest chemical supply chain initiatives.

The 2011 event, will be an opportunity for the chemical industry not only to look back and analyse the last ten years but also a chance to shape the next decade. To celebrate a decade of LogiChem, the organisers have created an exciting three day programme filled with networking opportunities in a new location, Antwerp.

In fact, a recent report revealed that 2011 will present a new set of challenges for chemical supply chain directors. As the chemical industry still reels from the aftermath of the cyclical downturn and global recession, companies are faced with strengthened competition from the Middle East, concerns about a European capacity crisis, ongoing M&A activity and prevailing cost volatilities.

Michaela Menezes, LogiChem's producer, revealed that a common theme unearthed in her research has been that whilst generally confidence has risen, chemical companies are increasingly focused on improving working capital, achieving end-to-end efficiency through closer customer positioning and driving cost out of the supply chain. Most importantly, the supply chain directors of the world's biggest chemical companies are turning to experienced solution providers to help them achieve their objectives.

Interestingly, the above three themes will form the basis of LogiChem 2011's 3-day conference where 45 of the world's leading supply chain directors will be sharing their perspectives on how to deliver supply chain excellence.

LogiChem has confirmed some of the biggest names in the chemical supply chain community on the programme - here's a snapshot of what they'll be sharing at LogiChem:

• Stefan Künzli, Vice President at BASF will be discussing change leadership and how the company has transformed its global supply network

• Torsten Pilz, Senior VP Supply Chain Consumer Goods, North America, Henkel will share a consumer goods perspective: how to develop a customer-led demand driven network

• Lawrence Cresci, Global Supply Chain Director at Dow Chemical will reveal how Dow harnessed the human element and achieved its efficiency, environmental responsibility and sustainability supply chain objectives.

In addition there will be high-level presentations and panel debates led by the most senior supply chain directors from companies like: Lyondell Basell, DuPont, DSM, SABIC and Clariant.
