Modern Soldier Equipment - Technology for Technology's Sake?

Report this content

Modernisation of soldier equipment has enhanced the level of situational awareness, lethality and survivability of the soldier. But, are soldiers being given the right soldier equipment and is new technology being given to soldiers just because it is now available?

Soldier modernisation efforts have meant that the combined load of the equipment soldiers must carry in to a mission has increased significantly and has lead to many injuries and heavy fatigue.

There needs to be a balance between enhancing soldier capability, ensuring that the soldier has the correct equipment for any given mission and the different technologies they have to carry.

One of the keys to getting this balance, or at least moving towards it, is enabling end-users - soldiers and test and evaluation offices - to give detailed, formal feedback directly to manufacturers and those in a position to procure the equipment.

By having a clear loop of feedback between the three parties mentioned above, our troops can have the correct equipment that enables operational effectiveness without causing fatigue or injury.

To find out more details about the topic above, Soldier Technology 2011 conference and exhibition will provide a platform for the following:

-       End-user feedback to manufacturers and MoD procurement staff

-       Testing of future equipment to ensure it delivers the correct performance

-       Visibility on future procurement plans.

If you are an end-user (soldier or test and evaluation officer) or warrant officer, then visit the Soldier Technology Exhibition, 8th & 9th June at Olympia, London.
