"This will be a useful event for the participants to see the best practices" Orhan Ozer, President & CEO, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey, Speaker - AutoTurkey 2011

AutoTurkey 2011, October 25-27 Istanbul

Over 150 senior representatives from Turkey’s thriving automotive industry are gathering in Istanbul this October to evaluate the automotive sector’s contribution to the 2023 economic vision of Turkey.  They will be joined by many of their Western European counterparts who may hold the key to the increased export levels which will determine if these goals can be realised.

Ismail Sumer, Factory Director and Honda Turkiye spoke to AutoTurkey about how multinational OEMs will directly contribute to this goal.  ‘Our future vision for 2023 is creating products that maximise the joy of customers with speed, affordability and low carbon emissions.'  Ismail stresses  that focussing on these through advanced environment technology,  strengthening manufacturing capability and taking advantage of business in emerging nations will form the ‘three major factors’ for continued growth.

As the nation’s largest industry and producing over 70% for export local OEMs play a vital role in the realisation of the Government’s 2023 Vision. Honda, along with Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Ford Otosan, TOFAS, Renault and MAN will lead the Turkish OEM representation in presenting specialist updates at AutoTurkey 2011 on how they each intend to contribute.   However many believe that whilst maximising capacity of vehicle production will play a role in export growth, it is the vast high-quality supplier network which must make significant gains in international markets to establish Turkey as the Eurasian hub of automotive manufacture.

‘In 2005 the next step in the evolution of the industry was done, Turkey is now also an R&D centre. We have a profound and deep knowledge in automotive here in Turkey’, Hermann Butz, General Manager, Bosch San ve Tic AŞ.

Demonstrating this knowledge and quality remains the next big step for the supplier industry.  AutoTurkey offers a unique networking forum to build these key relationships and demonstrate capabilities to a number of global manufacturers in just two days.  Also at AutoTurkey we have confirmed representation from European head offices of Toyota, BMW, GM, Peugeot Citroen, Volkswagen, Nissan, Cherry and Volvo.

But it is Turkey’s reputation for engineering excellence which is increasingly convincing multinational customers and AutoTurkey’s interactive programme will promote the strength of the domestic workforce.  As Ismail Sumer explains ‘the Turkish education system producers workforce with valuable technical skills and 65% workforce under 35 years old, this gives a good base for supply to Europe’.

‘It’s the people that make the product; therefore it’s the people that make the success’ says Butz.  ‘The quality mindset and productivity mindset is outstanding.’

AutoTurkey will bring case studies, interactive Q&As and expert-led discussions at to Turkey on 26-27 October.  Added to this is over 6 hours of structured networking and an exclusive plant visit to Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey (25th October).
