One hundred Santas gear-up for a classic Christmas drive for charity

Shoreham based firm VWHeritage (www.vwheritage.com) is gearing-up for its annual Christmas charity event which raises funds and awareness for The Children’s Trust at Tadworth Court near Reigate.

Now in it’s fifth year, the Santa Cruise will take place on Sunday 14th December where, organisers are hoping, between 80 and 150 people, all togged out in Santa costumes and driving classic VW vehicles, will take part.

The convoy will start its journey at the VWHeritage headquarters on Dolphin Road in Shoreham and finish at Tadworth Court where the Children’s Trust is based.

The one hour drive along A and B roads from Sussex to Surrey spreads good cheer and gets a lot of attention from other motorists, pedestrians and children en-route, who appear to love the spectacle.

VWHeritage Marketing Manager Andy Gregory has always taken part and says it’s an important event in their festive diary:

“We like to put this event on for a couple of reasons. We need no excuse to drive our classic cars, we are VW enthusiasts after all, so to combine this passion, with something really fun, like dressing up as Santa, en masse, is great. The final part of the puzzle is raising money for a good cause. We have supported The Children’s Trust at Tadworth Court for a number of years. Arriving in classic cars, dressed as Santa and bearing gifts for the Children, who are mainly recovering, or living with brain injuries is humbling, and gives a great sense of pride amongst those who take part. Last rear we raised over £500 for this fantastic charity.

The visual stimulus of perhaps 100 Santas is clearly appreciated by the children, who may not be able to speak, but there will be lots of smiling and laughing! We would encourage anyone with a classic car, a sense of fun, and a willingness to support a good cause to join us”.

Many of the participants are VWHeritage staff and management but this vibrant charity event is open to anyone who is willing to don a Father Christmas outfit for the duration of the afternoon.

Participants pay £14 per car, and £6 per additional Santa suit, but people without VWs shouldn’t be put off – there is always room in somebody’s Classic VW! And non VWs will not be excluded. All proceeds from the Santa suits are passed directly to the charity and participants can also wrap and donate presents for the children if they wish.
