TAMPA, Fla. (November 14, 2010) — Tampa-based WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) employees, along with their family and friends, came together on November 12, 2011, at the University of South Florida to participate in American Diabetes Association’s signature event, Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. Employee fundraising combined with a matching donation by The WellCare Community Foundation brought the total donated to more than $40,000.

“This is WellCare’s third consecutive year supporting the American Diabetes Association through its Step Out walk, and I am proud of our employees’ dedication to helping fight a disease that touches so many of the members we serve,” said Alec Cunningham, WellCare’s chief executive officer.

The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to Stop Diabetes and its deadly consequences. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives a voice to those who have diabetes.

“The American Diabetes Association applauds WellCare’s efforts,” said David McShea, American Diabetes Association’s national director, Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. “During the last three years, WellCare and its employees have donated more than $100,000 to the ADA. Every dollar raised through Step Out is important and supports the Association’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.”
