Wellspect HealthCare Introduces LoFric® Elle™ Pro – Designed to Support Complete Bladder Emptying and Build Long Term Confidence in Intermittent Catheterization
Mölndal, Sweden – March 26, 2026 – Wellspect HealthCare, a global provider of continence care solutions, today announced the introduction of LoFric® Elle™ Pro, a new hydrophilic, ready-to-use intermittent catheter designed to allow for bladder emptying in one free flow, without the need for repositioning. Building on the proven design of LoFric® Elle™ with its L-shaped handle, LoFric® Elle™ Pro introduces twelve smooth Pro eyelets developed to further simplify catheterization, support complete bladder emptying and provide greater reassurance for women who rely on intermittent catheterization (IC) in their daily lives.

How Twelve Pro Eyelets Support Effective Bladder Emptying
A critical component of effective IC is complete bladder emptying. Residual urine can persist in the bladder as chronic urinary stasis, which may allow bacteria to remain, contribute to rising bladder pressure, and increase the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections and subsequent antibiotic use[1],[2],[3]. Incomplete emptying can also enable sediments to settle over time, causing long-term irritation and possible bladder stone formation over time[4],[5]. Catheter design therefore plays an important role in supporting effective drainage.
With its multiple eyelets, LoFric® Elle™ Pro is designed to allow for complete bladder emptying of urine and particles in one go, without the need for repositioning. Complete bladder emptying is well known to reduce the risk for urinary tract infections and by supporting predictable and continuous drainage, the catheter aligns with widely recognized principles for maintaining bladder health over time.
“From a clinical perspective, one of the ongoing challenges in intermittent catheterization is ensuring that each catheterization cycle efficiently clears urine, sediment and urinary stones,” said Jan Hörling, Vice President Medical Affairs and Market Access, Wellspect HealthCare. “The twelve smooth Pro eyelets are engineered to promote a continuous and unobstructed flow, helping reduce the likelihood of residual urine that can contribute to chronic urinary stasis. The design also simplifies clinical teaching, as effective emptying can be achieved without repositioning the catheter.”
Building on Proven Design
More than half of women learning intermittent catheterization report, in a user survey, uncertainty about their ability to catheterize independently or ever feeling confident performing IC. The most common challenges include positioning the body comfortably and locating the urethra. For those using a mirror, the hand often blocks the line of sight, an experience shared by most women during their first attempts[6]. These challenges can delay learning, undermine confidence, and reduce long-term adherence to therapy.
LoFric Elle Pro is designed to support learning and performing intermittent catheterization. In user feedback, participants reported that the L-shaped handle supported visibility when using a mirror and made it easier for them to reach and identify the urethra in a natural sitting position, with 90% reporting that using LoFric Elle made it easier to catheterize [7],[8].
In addition, LoFric® Elle™ Pro features Wellspect’s Urotonic™ Surface Technology (UST), which provides a smooth, well‑lubricated surface supporting gentle insertion and withdrawal[9].
“This new Pro technology builds on the already popular L‑shaped Elle product, known for improving visibility, reach, and ease of use, by adding an important clinical advancement that supports complete bladder emptying for long‑term urologic health,” said Chris Schlenk, Group Vice President, Wellspect HealthCare. “We are proud to offer a next‑generation solution that gives women confidence in both clinical settings and at home, supporting consistent and reliable daily catheterization.”
The launch of LoFric® Elle™ Pro will roll out gradually across markets during 2026.
