For Immediate Issue WHALEPR18.10 - Multicar 10th June 2010 PLANT & WASTE RECYCLING SHOW – STAND NOS: N4 & N5 WHALE DEVELOPS NEW DEMOUNT SYSTEM WITH MULTICAR Specialist supplier to the waste and cleaning industries, Whale Tankers of Solihull, has expanded its Demountable Whale product offering having developed a new body system for use with Multicar’s FUMO – a compact implement carrier with transporter functionality. Indeed having entered into a new strategic partnership agreement with Multicar here in the UK, Whale Tankers will now become the company’s exclusive provider of what Whale is branding its DSC (demountable small combination) Whale body option. Having working closely with Multicar over the passed several months, Whale used PAWRS - the Plant & Waste Recycling Show - to parade its first DSC Whale that has been specified by Doncaster Council. Exhibited on stand no N4 and N5, the DSC Whale features a demountable low volume combination vacuum tanker body with the Multicar Fumo 5.2 tonne GVW 4 x 2 left hand drive chassis. In order to provide end customer with a vehicle that exhibits the ultimate in terms of versatility and functionality, the DSC Whale body can be interchanged with additional implements and attachments, such as gritter and scissor bodies etc moving forwards. Additionally, in order to provide maximum payloads when functioning in its role as a gully cleaner, Whale and Multicar have design-engineered weight out of the vehicle. As such, the DSC Whale has an impressive payload of 1250kgs. Constructed from Grade 3CR12 corrosion resistant steel, the low volume combination body has a 2400 litre capacity. Alongside a 1400-litre debris/sludge compartment comes a 1,000-litre tank for clean jetting water. Scheduled to enter service with Doncaster Council immediately after PAWRS, the DSC Whale will be deployed to clean gullies located in restricted domestic alleyway areas, as well as pedestrianised precincts where weight limits are in force. Complete with a 4” full bore gully boom that features Whale’s new anti-vibration gully boom control handle, the DSC Whale body is equipped with a Speck NP25 high pressure pump delivering up to 10gpm at 2000psi and the proven Mistral CL90 series exhaust compressor. Powered by the Iveco F 1 C Euro 5 diesel engine, the Fumo delivers 145 hp at 3500 rpm. Commenting on the development programme, Whale’s Managing Director, Mark Warmington stated: “Whilst the DSC Whale option provides all the advantages of a standard demountable Whale body, it will provide customers with far greater utilisation, particularly in narrow streets and precinct areas. We are delighted to have finalised an agreement with Multicar here in the UK to this effect, as the two technologies involved work very well together in providing a vehicle solution that offers real added value without compromising on payload.” As Brian Croll of Multicar UK adds: “We are delighted to have Whale Tankers as our partner for what is a specialist body system. Not only have they proved to have the technical expertise required to design and manufacture the product with input from ourselves, their proven service and parts infrastructure is the envy of the industry. We are confident that the partnership will be mutually beneficial for both businesses.” -ENDS- For Immediate Issue WHALEPR22.10 – Hydro 10th June 2010 PLANT & WASTE RECYCLING SHOW – STAND NOS: N4 & N5 WHALE SECURES HYDRO-CLEANSING RECYCLER ORDER AT PAWRS The first Whale Tanker to surface in the fleet of progressive domestic and commercial sewage company, Hydro-Cleansing Limited of Croydon, Surrey, was one of Whale’s headline exhibits at PAWRS – the Plant & Waste Recycling Show. In addition to relishing the commissioning of the non-hazardous 32-tonne vacuum tanker unit post PAWRS, Hydro-Cleansing Limited – one of the south’s leading specialists in environmental waste solutions – also furnished Whale with an additional order for what is set to become the biggest and most advanced sewer cleaning Jet-Vac with continuous dirty water recycler ever produced by them. And whilst Hydro-Cleansing has yet to see its first ever Whale tanker enter service, with another articulated vacuum Whale in build at present, Managing Director, Steve Hoad, is already looking forward to developing his company’s association with Whale in the future. As he commented: “We are extremely excited about the prospects of working with Whale in developing the recycler, as it will be a highly-sophisticated piece of capital equipment and one that is aligned to our policy of specifying only specialist tanker units. Before that, however, we are equally excited about adding the two Whale vacuum tankers to a fleet that will become 20-strong.” Established only seven years ago, privately owned Hydro-Cleansing works with a number of leading utility and service providers across the South and East of the England and has quickly established a reputation for investing in the most effective and modern equipment available within the field of sewage cleaning and waste management. Supporting this philosophy is the specification of the PAWRS paraded non-hazardous Whale vacuum tanker, equipped with DAF’s FD 85.410 8 x 4 chassis and featuring Hydro-Cleansing’s colourful and vibrant livery. With an overall capacity of 4,200 gallons - 4,000 dedicated to debris/sludge and 200 to clean water – high-performance vacuum power emanates from a Jurop PR 150 water-cooled exhauster. Additionally, the vacuum Whale – constructed out of carbon steel – features a low volume but high pressure jetting system delivering up to 10gpm at 2,000psi. The new vehicle will support one of Hydro-Cleansing’s specific contracts, the end customer working in partnership with Southern Water. -ENDS- For Immediate Issue WHALEPR23.10 – DMC Demo 10th June 2010 PLANT & WASTE RECYCLING SHOW – STAND NOS: N4 & N5 WHALE/ECON DEMOUNT SYSTEM RESURFACES AT PAWRS In what represents one of the most exciting developments in the municipal equipment sector in recent years, Whale Tankers and Econ promoted the success of their ongoing relationship on the Whale Tankers’ stand at this year’s PAWRS. Having made available a premium product that now sees Whale’s medium volume combination tanker units equipped with Econ’s QCB 2000 (Quick Change Body) system - branded a DMC (demountable medium combination) - the two organisations have built an additional demonstration unit that is being exhibited at the show. The new Whale/Econ gully emptier - featuring the DAF FA LF 55.220 4 x 2 18-tonne chassis and Whale’s specifically designed Demountable 7000 litre Tank, which has a 4000 litre Debris tank with a division and pannier tanks giving 3000 litres of fresh water. The specification boasts many of the new features that Whale has introduced to its MVC tanker. The DMC can also be specified as a 26-tonne GVW variant. Commenting on the ongoing success of the partnership, Whale Tankers’ Managing Director, Mark Warmington said: “Since the Whale/Econ relationship started, we have seen a constant increase in demand, in particular from a larger number of local authority operators. The appeal of the product comes from the fact that it offers greater utilisation of the chassis and capital equipment all year round”. Andrew Lupton of Econ Engineering added: “The new demountable variant has already proved very successful, with initial demonstrations having resulted in a series of spin-off orders being secured. Indeed such has been the demand to see the product demonstrated that it made perfect commercial sense to build an additional unit.” The DMC Whale features a number of improved performance, health and safety related features and product enhancements. The most significant is the use of a radically new Hose storage feature. The storage holds four lengths of 3m long 4” diameter hose in a fully designed drop down rack and with manual handling in mind is counterbalanced for ease of operation, locking safely into position when stowed. In addition the operating control system, with the new PLC (Programmable Logic Control) gives the benefit of an electronic standardised system, which allows complete fleet interchangability and in turn more efficient operation. DMC Whale also incorporates Whale’s recently introduced anti-vibration gully boom control unit - developed in-house as a means of reducing health and safety concerns surrounding hand-arm (HAV) vibration. OPTIONAL EXTRAS Alongside the new features that now form part of Whale’s standard vehicle specification, a number of optional extras can also be specified. These are: • A dedicated lockable nozzle storage facility. • Soft Start to Jetting handgun. • Dual Function Digital Hose Reel Trip Meter • Remote greasing facility to the Gully Boom Swivel • Heated Storage Locker • Timed Pulsation facility to the Jetting system -ENDS- For Immediate Issue WHALEPR19.10 - Genesis 10th June 2010 PLANT & WASTE RECYCLING SHOW – STAND NOS: N4 & N5 GENESIS RESTORATION SEES WHALE GO BACK TO ITS ROOTS Visitors to this year’s PAWRS – the Plant & Waste Recycling Show – got the chance to take a trip down memory lane courtesy of specialist supplier to the waste and cleaning industries, Whale Tankers. Taking pride of place on the Whale Stand - N4 & N5 - was Genesis, the company’s first gully cleaner demonstrator that has recently been painstakingly restored to its former glory. First exhibited at Eastbourne Institute of Public Health open air show in the summer of 1973, Whale’s demonstrator ‘Number 1’ once again looks resplendent some 27 years on, which is in part due to the paint finish that Whale and industry partners, PPG, have developed and applied to the newly-restored Genesis as she is now affectionately known. Pleased to be working with PPG - Whale having enjoyed a long association with one of the automotive industry’s leading paint specialists – Genesis is finished in a sophisticated Croma flair effect Twilight paint that creates an impression of the vehicle subtly changing colour based on varying light conditions and when viewed from different angles. Still fitted to the original Ford D series 13 tonne gvw 4 x 2 chassis – itself restored to pristine condition – Whale’s first generation gully cleaner is once again fully operational, having been brought up to meet all current industry requirements. Indeed Genesis serves to demonstrate how successful the decision was for Whale Tankers to focus on the design and manufacture of vacuum tankers for the transportation of liquid waste back in the 1970s. In unison, it also symbolises Whale’s unique standing within the industry, as Genesis will now be used to support the company’s appearance at various trade roadshows and marketing and promotional events. As Whale Tankers’ Managing Director, Mark Warmington enthused: “Whilst some may criticise investing in restoring such a vehicle in a time of recession, we took the view that Genesis presented us two major opportunities. Firstly it gave us the chance to demonstrate the quality of manufacture that has always gone into a Whale tanker, Genesis to this day having retained its original pressure vessel barrel body. Secondly, the restoration programme gave us a practical opportunity to get both experienced employees and apprentices involved, which proved to be a valuable training aid, as original features could be compared with how the product has been innovatively developed over recent decades. We now have in our armoury a GullyWhale that despite being 27-years young, is capable of functioning just as well as it did, if not better, than in its heyday. What’s more, we have invested a considerable amount in giving Genesis the renaissance she deserves by paying particular attention to the paint finish. The end result, as I’m sure that those see her in the flesh will appreciate, is truly stunning.” Having been initially used on Whale’s demonstrator tour in its early years, the 1000-gallon capacity twin compartment tanker was sold in September 1976 for £3,500. Completely unaware of the vehicle’s significance, the tanker was ironically bought third hand by a Whale Tankers’ tenant farmer who then worked at what remains the company’s Ravenshaw site. Following a discussion with the farmer and Whale’s owners, it was sold back to the business for the princely sum of £100. Whale then proceeded to refurbish Genesis before laying her to rest on a trestle made of Birmingham tramlines from which the factory at Ravenshaw was first constructed in the early 1900’s. The rest as they say is history. -ENDS- PRESS CONTACT: Paul Watson Wentworth Communications Limited Tel: 0161 973 6763 Fax: 0161 969 6813 Email: paul@wentworthcomms.co.uk
